Città di Castello Hotels

Città di Castello is a small jewel surrounded by magnificent 13th-century walls, sitting on a low hill nestled in the green landscape of the Region of Umbria.

During the Middle Ages, under the rule of the Vitelli family, the city was greatly developed.

Then during the fervour of the Renaissance, some very elegant buildings were constructed (at the St. Egidio gate and at the Cannoniera). The Romanesque Cathedral was enlarged in 1300 and again in 1500; however, its 17th-century façade has remained unfinished.

Inside the church is a precious painting of 'The Transfiguration' by Rosso Fiorentino.
Not to be missed: the Burri Collection donated by the artist himself [Alberto Burri] and housed in the 'Albizzini Palace' since 1978.
