The Space Hotels sales team had a very successful meeting at the Poggio del Sole Resort in Ragusa. Space, which has always been a company based on human contact and technological innovation, counts on its distribution team. As in all companies, the sales team is an indispensible strategic element. The training and efficiency of its sales representatives is one of Space's greatest competitive advantages.
The all-female sales meeting was headed by Space's General Director Lidia Rescigno and Marketing Director Daniela Passeri and included Frédérique Gonot for the North-West, Alessandra Clemente and Manuela Piazzi for Lombardy, Deborah D'Angelo, Stefania Cervoni and Sabrina Bellucci for Latium and Rosella Perfumo for Customer Care. The team also included Eva Vogel, who handles international markets.
Positive signs for Space and Sicily
The first six months of the year have been positive for Space Hotels with a 7.61% increase in turnover. GDS production in the Italian market rose 50% with respect to the same period in 2007. The number of meetings has grown by 70% with respect to the first two quarters of 2007. Space Hotels is expanding is national coverage, a context that renders even more significant the affiliation of Poggio del Sole, the third hotel in Sicily to join Space after the Cristal Palace in Palermo and the Excelsior Grand Hotel in Catania. Both Sicily and southern Italy are in a positive period of tourism development with higher growth rates than the national level. More foreign tourists are visiting southern Italy and discovering all it has to offer; not just seaside resorts but also cultural tourism, thereby expanding the tourist industry inland from the coast. This is the case of the Poggio del Sole Resort, which is immersed in the countryside of Ragusa just five minutes from the sea and the house of the famous fictional TV character Commissioner Montalbano. It sits in a pivotal position with respect to the major cities of Val di Noto, including Noto, Ragusa Ibla, Modica and Caltagirone, which have been added to the UNESCO list of world heritage sites thanks to Sicilian baroque. This positive trend can be seen in the results obtained by Space Hotels in Sicily that even prior to the contribution of the Poggio del Sole Resort, which entered the group in January 2008 had an increase of 7.71% with respect to the same period last year.
Poggio del Sole Resort
The Poggio del Sole Resort in Ragusa, which entered the Space Hotels reservation and marketing group this year, is the perfect hotel for training sessions, meetings and incentives, with its fully-equipped meeting rooms, two restaurants and a bar. The Poggio del Sole Resort, built in 1879 as a rural home, was renovated and enlarged by its currents owners in 2006. With the recent addition of new guestrooms and services, the hotel has gone from a residence to a comfortable resort, in a successful melange of antique and modern, of past and present, as well as the harmonious integration of different architectural styles. The original building hosts three suites, the refined Dell'Angelo restaurant, rich with Mediterranean flavours, the Degli Archi conference rooms and the Lounge Bar. The new area houses the more informal Hosteria restaurant with its stone-oven, serving traditional cuisine, the elegant and refined guestrooms, the Maize bar, the perfect place for having a drink, and the swimming pool for moments of relaxation.
During the meeting in Sicily, the sales team also visited the Excelsior Grand Hotel in Catania, a large five-star hotel in the heart of the city centre. Its interior design is sober and refined with contemporary furnishings that are accented by the warm colours of Sicily. Its view of the Etna volcano is spectacular. The hotel's restaurant - which is famous for its haute cuisine based on local tradition and regional wineries - and its lounge bar are popular, lively meeting places for the entire city.
