While average revenues have remained stable, Space Hotels showed an increase in income of 9.38% in June of 2010 with respect to June of 2009. The number of guests showed a significant increment of 25.98%, while GDS reservations grew by an overall 11% for the first 2 quarters with a 19% month-to-month increase. Italy remains the major market, followed by the USA in second place and the UK in third place. General Director Lidia Rescigno says, "We can confirm that the trend of American arrivals is growing and we saw an 8% increase in June of this year with respect to last year. The most popular destinations are Rome, Cagliari, Turin, Bari and Catania."

We also saw a rise in GDS reservations, particularly through Amadeus.

The meeting sector has been very rewarding for Space Hotels with an increase of 9.50% with respect to the first and second quarters of 2009. Sales activities are progressing tirelessly with meetings, targeted actions and trade fair stands. Last month, Space Hotels participated in the annual Supranational Hotels Consortia meeting, where market evolution was discussed in detail.

"The increased use of SBT (Self Booking Tools) has created a new corporate client profile", commented Rescigno, "with a resulting almost exclusive use of hotels with sales agreements. Internet has changed market behaviour making information and opportunities that never existed before available to final users. Space Hotels is following this trend and has added a section to its website - www.spacehotels.it - dedicated to events taking place in the destinations where it has affiliates".

"The newest trend is corporate clients being more concerned about the environment and preferring hotels that have implemented policies of environmental respect and protection", continued Rescigno. "Innovative companies like Ikea have set an example of this behaviour, which has led to increased energy saving, reduced waste and less ostentation over recent years. For example, the Federico II in Jesi, the Rizzi Aquacharme Hotel & Spa in Boario and the Green Park Resort in Tirrenia have all received ISO 14001 environmental certification. To reduce their guests' travel costs, many affiliated hotels offer free services such as indoor parking, an in-room mini-bar and the ever-appreciated in-room WI-FI connection. All these perks are listed in our 2010 directory."
