Pets are not only welcomed; they are pampered in 61 affiliates of the large hotel group
You are getting ready to leave on holiday, packing your pet's suitcase and making sure that you have not forgot anything for them. But are you sure that your four-legged friend will be accepted where you are going? So, naturally, you search the web beforehand. One site you can count on is Space Hotels, www.spacehotels.it, which offers in its "hotels" section a "pet friendly" section with a list of over 60 hotels in Italy where pets are welcomed and often pampered.
Every summer for more than ten years, Space Hotels has been promoting its affiliates that accept pets, as it has deep feelings about animal abandonment and wants to help avoid it as much as possible. Why should we leave our beloved pets behind? Many celebrities have set positive examples such as: the "first dog" Bo, who frolics in the White House with the Obama family; Jennifer Aniston and her Norman; Mickey Rourke and Loki, who walk the red carpet together. And in Italy, the famous comedian, Enzo Iacchetti, always has his dog Willy with him on his daily news spoof show "Striscia la Notizia".
Walktime and bedtime Many Space Hotels have large fenced gardens and outdoor spaces where pets can be safely and relaxingly taken for walks (Hotel President Giovinazzo north of Bari, Il Piccolo Castello in Monteriggioni near Siena, Hotel Federico II in Jesi in the province of Ancona). Years ago, the Domina Hotel Conference Palace in Bari was the first ever to create a "pet room", which offers guests: a cot covered with plaid fabric; a set of grooming products with combs and brushes; a selection of hard and soft toys; an assortment of cat and dog foods; and hygienic parquet floors.
The Hotel Des Nations in Riccione has three rooms with pet beds and large terraces. The hotel is affiliated with a nearby restaurant that accepts animals and a groomer that, along with shampoos and cuts, offers dog-sitting and delivers various brands of pet food and cat litter. As well, the hotel owner, Chantal Michaux, is the only person in Italy who treats all types of canine pathologies with floritherapy also known as flower remedies.
For people who travel a lot, want their pets with them and are always on the lookout for animal-friendly hotels, both the Hotel Londra in Florence and The Hub Hotel in Milan (opening in October 2009) offer an "Always Together" package of services specifically designed for dogs, which includes a cot, a bowl, toys, and a map indicating public gardens with leash-free areas, local veterinarians, pet shops, groomers and dog-sitters.
And for mealtime The Hotel Savoy in Pesaro and the Bonconte in Urbino offer pet food and give information on public gardens with leash-free areas, pet-friendly beaches and restaurants, local veterinarians and pet shops. Many affiliates offer dog-sitting and grooming services on request.
For just an extra 10 euros a day, four-legged guests at the Hotel Carlton in Ferrara can have bedding provided and changed daily. The chef of the Green Park Resort in Tirrenia offers a menu suitable to dogs' tastes and habits on request. Throughout Italy The over 60 Space affiliates that accept pets are located in major Italian tourist destinations: such as art cities - Rome, Florence, Venice, Bergamo, Padua, Vicenza, Treviso, Ferrara, Bologna, Parma, Pisa, Siena, Urbino, Perugia, Catania; business cities - Milan, Turin, Cuneo, Genoa, Padua, Aosta, Novara, Piacenza, Modena, Pesaro, Ancona, Jesi, Bari; and resort cities - Como, Riva del Garda, Rapallo, Santa Margherita Ligure, Riccione, Rimini, Fiuggi, Pettenasco sul Lago d'Orta. They are all chosen by Space Hotels based on rigorous quality and service criteria and are both very welcoming and very well kept. Many of them are decorated in earlier period styles and have gourmet restaurants, terraces with views, gardens, swimming pools and wellness centres.
