Places, environments and people in the "Space Travel Notes" blog
"Throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - Mark Twain
"Travel": such a simple word that holds such deep meaning. While the word "travel" does mean movement, the real journey is the one that remains in our hearts and that we relive every time we look at our keepsake albums. Our memories are stored forever in our photographs, notes and train, bus and plane tickets, as well as in the flowers that we collected and put into a book we had with us to dry. A diary is a traveller's greatest ally, just as it was historically for Hemigway or Chatwin.
However, to truly appreciate our travels well into the future, there is need for something more than a group of haphazardly taken photographs. That is a proper travel education, in which we learn how to travel with imagination and respect for the places visited.
This thought gave birth to the Space Travel Notes blog (www.spacetravelnotes.com) created by a collaboration between Space Hotels and the "School of Travel". It is dedicated to people who document their travels by passionately writing, drawing or photographing. The intention of the Space Hotels blog is to help travellers fully appreciate their experience by offering a vast array of tips on how to keep their memories, emotions and feelings. For example, how best to frame a shot, to sketch a landscape or to write a brief reportage.
Space Hotels, the Italian branch of the Supranational Hotels group, has 86 three to five star hotels in over 50 cities throughout the country. The entire Supranational chain offers more than 1,000 hotels in 75 nations and over 500 cities, which can be reached through 21 reservation offices, the GDS (code SX), the Internet at www.spacehotels.it or their tollfree number 800-813-013. The Space Hotels offer includes: business or leisure stays with interesting special rates; organisation of meetings and conferences; fine cuisine by some of the best Italian chefs; relaxation, massages and saunas in elegant spas and wellness centres.
The "School of Travel" is an association founded in 2005 by Claudio Visentin, a professor at the Italian University of Switzerland in Lugano. It was born as a spin-off collaboration between universities in Lugano, Pavia and Pisa. It is now a national association of sustainable and responsible tourism (affiliated with AITR) that aims to build a creative community, to encourage travellers to reflect on their experiences and to promote knowledge, awareness, appreciation and respect for places visited. Its partners include publishing houses (Touring, EDT, Guanda, Vallardi and Moleskine) and travel businesses (Space Hotels and Mondial Assistance).
