SPACE HOTELS: STRATEGY OF CONTINUITY FOR NEW BOARD OF DIRECTORS
It is a time of confirmation for Space Hotels, which will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2014. The Italian partner of the Supranational Hotels group still believes in its traditional approach to the market, made up of a direct relationship with its clients, continuous assistance, experience and professionalism. "Even in this era of high technology," explains Lidia Rescigno, Space Hotels' General Director, "we are firmly convinced that people are looking for a level of quality that only personal contact can give. For this reason, in the coming months, we will further intensify the field visits of our sales team. This choice has always proven to be very successful. And, as the old saying goes, "don't change a winning team." Space Hotels' AGM, which took place in late May at the Hotel Londra in Florence, voted in favour of continuity, re-electing the existing board of directors with one new addition, Claudia Ferrero of the Hotel Ovest in Piacenza.
The Board of Directors is now as follows: the Chairman is still Piero Marzot of the Hotel Spadari al Duomo in Milan and the Vice-Chairman is still Riccardo Vallinotto of the Hotel Victoria in Torino; the other original members are Franco Coppini of the First Hotel Malpensa, Luigi Neri of the Hotel Tiferno in Città di Castello, Guglielmo Piperno of the Hotel Mascagni in Rome and Kim Young-Shik Serandrei of the Hotel Saturnia in Venice, as well as the new member Claudia Ferrero of the Hotel Ovest in Piacenza.
"To continue to give a voice to our affiliates," continues Lidia Rescigno, "our company also has a steering committee, which has been expanded this year to include two new members." Along with the newly re-elected members Giulio Lera of the Grand Hotel Sitea in Turin and Matteo Marzot of the Hotel Gran Duca di York in Milan, the committee includes Beniamino Tomasoni of the Hotel Excelsior San Marco in Bergamo and Giancarlo Carniani of the Plaza Hotel Lucchesi in Florence.
This tightly knit team will be facing the challenge of a market in extreme evolution; however, it will have full knowledge of the changes and be in possession of useful tools for every opportunity in the coming economic recovery. "We are well aware of how necessary it has become to continuously revise business strategies. In the past, we could prepare two- or three-year plans. Now, it is unthinkable to plan beyond a six-month period," explains Lidia Rescigno. "Moreover, since 2008, the nature of demand has changed and will continue to do so into the future. Travellers' concern about budget has increased, while their length of stay has decreased. We will continue to focus on the business market, which has always been our specialisation, without detracting from the leisure sector. Our plan is to try and enter new market segments and win new contracts, thanks to the many contacts we have developed over our almost 40 years experience in the field. This will allow us to best take advantage of the future economic recovery, which has already begun to show its first signs, for example, in such international markets as the USA, and we all know that whatever happens there will eventually come to Italy."
Space Hotels also plans to enlarge its affiliate portfolio to include at least one hotel in every capital city in Italy. "Joining Space Hotels means that hotels will be able to reach clients that would be difficult to contact on their own," explains Lidia Rescigno. "When making hotel reservations, corporate purchasing managers are usually very busy and almost always use brand name hotel chains. Therefore, in terms of visibility, being part of a brand like ours offers great advantages. This is thanks to the work of our press office and our periodic marketing campaigns, which we carry out on the main GDSs on behalf of our affiliates.
