The Historic Plaza Hotel Lucchesi in Florence Joins Space Hotels

In 2013, Space Hotels' portfolio has been joined by the prestigious Plaza Hotel Lucchesi in Florence, a four-star hotel centrally located on the Arno River behind the Church of Santa Croce. It has been chosen for many reasons: its tradition and elegance, which have made it a historic address appreciated by illustrious guests; its uniquely central position; the view that can be enjoyed from its recently renovated rooms and its panoramic restaurant. This pet-friendly hotel also offers a private car park, free Wi-Fi and special packages for prepaid or long stays.

The historic Plaza Hotel Lucchesi has been under new management since early January 2013. The new General Director is Giancarlo Carniani, one of the founders of BTO: the annual "Buy Tourism Online" fair that takes place in Florence and focuses on innovative marketing activities on the internet and social networks. This guarantees that, at the Plaza Lucchesi, history blends with innovation in keeping with the standards of Space Hotels.

A historic Florentine address

The Plaza Lucchesi is one of Florence's oldest hotels. It started out as the Pensione Lucchesi in 1860 and, throughout the 1900s, became one of the city's most famous hotels. Over the years, many illustrious guests have chosen the Plaza Hotel Lucchesi including François Mitterand, Marcello Mastroianni and Domenico Modugno. Thanks to its warm hospitality and attention to detail, it continues to be one of the favourite destinations of people who want a luxury hotel in the heart of the Tuscan capital.

Extraordinary location and view

The best way to visit Florence is on foot wandering through its maze of streets imbued with history.

The Plaza Lucchesi has a unique location on the Arno River within walking distance of the city's many tourist attractions. It stands behind the Church of Santa Croce facing onto "Piazzale Michelangelo" and the Basilica of "San Miniato al Monte", just a few steps from the "Ponte Vecchio" and the Uffizi Museum and not far from the Cathedral and the Academy, where Michelangelo's famous statue of David is kept.

Another aspect that differentiates it from other Florentine hotels is that 60 of its 97 rooms have a panoramic view: ten rooms with balconies facing onto the Arno River and Piazzale Michelangelo and fifty facing onto the Church of Santa Croce and the Cathedral.

It has the great advantage of being outside of Florence's pedestrian zone and reachable by car. It also has a garage with 15 parking spots.

A must-see event in Florence

In the days around 24 June - which is the feast of St. John, Florence's patron saint - the Plaza Lucchesi is at the heart of the city's festive atmosphere. Facing onto the Church of Santa Croce makes it a focal point for all the events in the city and, above all, offers an enviable view of the fireworks.

Dining "on the Arno"

The hotel's "La Serra" restaurant is currently being renovated and will soon reopen offering Tuscan specialties to be enjoyed along with a splendid view of the Arno River. Thanks to its non-stop bar and grill service, guests can eat at any time.
